The British Events Space: where community comes together

Traditional Beauty

Since the early 19th century, The British Hotel has stood at the heart of Aylmer’s history — welcoming travellers, hosting celebrated performances, and serving as a gathering place for Canada’s post-Confederation elite. Rich in character and craftsmanship, the building reflects a remarkable architectural legacy shaped by both tradition and place.

Constructed of stone and wood, with walls nearly four feet thick to withstand the Canadian climate, the hotel showcases Georgian architectural style complemented by distinctive Québec influences. Rooftop dormer windows, elevated front steps, and a striking stone porte-cochère create a timeless sense of arrival, while preserving the authenticity and charm of this historic landmark.

Modern Elegance

Once known as the most elegant hotel west of Montréal, The British was thoughtfully restored between 2012 and 2015, carefully returning the property to its original beauty while introducing modern comforts. The restoration revived the historic 1834 ballroom, the Public House restaurant, and a collection of contemporary guest rooms and suites — each designed to honour the building’s heritage while enhancing today’s experience.

Today, The British Hotel offers a refined balance of tradition and style. Guests are welcomed into elegant surroundings where classical architecture meets modern comfort, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere and a memorable setting for gatherings, celebrations, and special events.
